I am married to an amazing woman: Jenn (Gunderson); have four incredible children: Bryce, Abbi, Cambria, and Zoë.

I pastor a wonderful little Assembly of God congregation in north west Minnesota and am currently an M.Div. Honours (specializing in Hebrew Bible and Theology) seminarian at Providence Theological Seminary (Otterburne, MB). Among other things I substitute teach at the local public school (K-12) and volunteer as an EMT-Basic with the local Ambulance.

I love reading theology and biblical studies: particularly the works of Karl Barth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, T. F. Torrance, Brevard Childs and (a favorite Church Father) Tertullian, though I’ve also found myself enjoying (even when disagreeing with and writing about) N. T. Wright and John Walton. I particularly enjoy listening to the preaching and lectures of John Piper, Don Carson and N. T. Wright and consider myself to be both theologically Reformed and Pentecostal.  In relation to this I am now here co-authoring this blog with several friends where we are primarily discussing Karl Barth’s Church Dogmatics, but also the works of Bonhoeffer, Wright and any other theologian that might tickle our fancy.

I love the study of languages and linguistics and hold competency in Hebrew, Greek and Ugaritic.  I have dabbled in Aramaic, Syriac, Farsi, Arabic, Latin and German (all of which I hope to some day gain competency in).  In a related manner, I consider myself an enthusiast of comparative religious and cultural/anthropological/sociological studies (ancient and modern) with special interests in Christian cults and Islam.

The books which have had the most profound impact on me would be Bonhoeffer’s “Discipleship”, “Life Together”, “Ethics”, and “Christ the Center”; Barth’s “Introduction to Evangelical Theology” and “Dogmatics in Outline”, J. Hudson Taylor’s “Spiritual Secret”, T. F. Torrance “The Christian Doctrine of God”, Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings Trilogy”, “The Hobbit”, and “Silmarillion”.

I am a member of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the International Bonhoeffer Society and a regular moderator at Forum.Bible.org

Jeff Wheeldon

Jeff Wheeldon is a Systematic Theology major at Providence Theological Seminary, with an undergrad in Biblical Theology.  He loves to travel, make pancakes, teach, and read – mostly about theology.  His favourite writers and theologians include CS Lewis and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, with a growing appreciation for Karl Barth, and a to-read list longer than his arm including TF Torrance, NT Wright, Jacques Ellul, and the whole Radical Orthodoxy posse, to name a few.  Of course all of that requires some background reading: Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Kant, Kierkegaard, Hegel, etc. etc.  He’ll be at it for quite a while, and he shares his journey through theology at his blog: StumblingThroughTheology.  He hopes someday to teach theology, or maybe preach, or anything else that involves talking about Jesus.
